ChatGPT

ChatGPT now supports MCP servers with OAuth authentication. Connecting MCPGate gives ChatGPT access to all your connected services — Gmail, GitHub, Slack, and more — with full guardrail enforcement on every tool call.

Note

ChatGPT MCP support requires Developer Mode to be enabled in your account settings. Go to Settings > Apps & Connectors > Advanced and enable Developer Mode before following these steps.

Setup

1

Enable Developer Mode

In ChatGPT, open Settings and navigate to Apps & Connectors > Advanced. Toggle on Developer Mode. This unlocks the ability to add custom MCP connectors.

2

Open Connectors

Go to Settings > Connectors and click Create to add a new connector.

3

Paste the MCPGate URL

In the connector URL field, paste:

text
https://api.mcpgate.sh/mcp

Tip

No API key needed in the URL. ChatGPT uses OAuth — it will open your browser to the MCPGate authorization page automatically.
4

Complete OAuth authorization

ChatGPT will open your browser to the MCPGate authorization page. Log in to your MCPGate account and click Approve. Once approved, return to ChatGPT — the connector is now active.

5

Verify the connection

Start a new conversation in ChatGPT. MCPGate tools will appear in the tools menu. Try asking ChatGPT to list your recent emails or GitHub issues to confirm the integration is working.

Guardrails Apply to All Clients#

Every tool call from ChatGPT goes through MCPGate's guardrail engine. Your rules — keyword blocking, rate limits, PII detection — enforce identically regardless of which AI client is making the call. The Activity log shows all calls with their decisions and block reasons.
